Wondering if the lake is cooler than the pool (spoiler: yes), if you can bring your dog, or if Frizou, our sheep mascot, really talks to children? We understand, you have questions… and luckily, we have answers (even for the most unlikely ones 🐑).

Where is Camping du Lac de Carouge located?
Camping du Lac de Carouge is ideally located in Saint-Pierre-d’Albigny, in Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Nestled between Chambéry and Albertville, this location offers easy access to the Bauges Regional Nature Park. The campsite is located on the shores of Lake Carouge, offering an exceptional natural setting with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
When is the campsite open?
The campsite is open from 10 April to 13 September 2025. These dates allow you to make the most of the spring and summer seasons, which are ideal for outdoor activities in Savoie.
How do I reserve a specific pitch?
📌 Yes, it is possible to choose a specific pitch when you make your booking.
When making your request, you can let us know your preferred pitch number or the area you would like (near the lake, shaded, next to your friends, etc.). We always do our best to accommodate your wishes.
👉 To guarantee a specific pitch, you can reserve it for an additional €20 (guaranteed pitch option). Without this option, we will note your preference and allocate you the requested pitch subject to availability.
📝 Our advice: book early if you want a specific pitch, especially in July and August. Some areas (by the lake or near the sanitary facilities) are in high demand!
Is there a swimming pool at Camping du Lac de Carouge?
🏊♂️ No, Camping du Lac de Carouge does not have a swimming pool on site… but don’t worry, there’s no shortage of water!
Just opposite the campsite is Lac de Carouge, a magnificent natural lake with Blue Flag status, guaranteeing clean, high-quality bathing water in an exceptional setting at the foot of the Bauges mountains. Swimming is supervised in summer, and a beach area allows you to relax or play with your family in complete safety. An authentic experience, without chlorine, but with a view of the mountains 🌄
🆕 And for even more swimming, in high season, we offer free access to two municipal swimming pools near the campsite:
- 🏖️ Saint-Pierre-d’Albigny swimming pool
Just 800 metres from the campsite, it is easily accessible on foot or by bike. It has a large pool, a paddling pool for children, green spaces to relax and a superb view of the surrounding mountains. - 🛝 Montmélian swimming pool
About a 10-minute drive away, this municipal swimming pool has a 25-metre pool, a water slide that is very popular with families, and a relaxation area. Perfect for a fun or sporty outing!
🎟️ Both swimming pools are free for our campers in July and August. Just stop by reception to pick up your tickets.
Are pets allowed at the campsite?
🐶 Yes, pets are welcome at Camping du Lac de Carouge! Here, we know that holidays aren’t complete without your four-legged friend 🐾
Whether you’re bringing Rex, Plume or Biscotte, your dog can enjoy the Savoyard countryside with you, provided you follow a few simple rules:
Pets are allowed on bare pitches and in rental accommodation
🐕🦺Pets must be kept on a leash on the campsite.
Dogs classified as category 1 and 2 (dogs considered ‘dangerous’ under French law) are not allowed for safety reasons.
🐾 Remember to bring your pet’s up-to-date vaccination certificate.
💧 Water points are available to refresh them, and walks around the lake are generally a hit with dogs! However, they are not allowed on the beach. A small stream surrounding the campsite will certainly be their little corner of paradise
🎒 Bonus: our mascot Frizou the sheep is very tolerant… except with cats who want to take his place on the campsite poster 😄
How many people can stay in rental accommodation?
👨👩👧👦 Our rental accommodation (mobile homes, chalets, lodges) can accommodate 2 to 6 people depending on the model.
Each accommodation is designed to offer comfort, space and practicality, whether you are travelling as a couple, with family or with friends. Here is a general overview:
🛌 2-bedroom mobile homes: up to 4 and exceptionally 6 people
🛌 3-bedroom mobile homes: up to 6 people
🛖 Nemo chalets / couple: 2 people with the option of adding an extra bed for a very young child depending on the layout
🛖 Moréa chalets: 4 to 6 people depending on the layout
🏕️ Canvas lodges: 4 to 6 people, perfect for a glamping atmosphere
🧒 Babies count as one person in the maximum capacity, but we can rent you a cot and high chair subject to availability.
ℹ️ To ensure everyone’s comfort, the number of people indicated for each accommodation cannot be exceeded, even with young children. Remember to choose the accommodation that best suits your family!
👉 All details are provided when you book online or are available on request.
Are VACAF vouchers accepted for a stay at the campsite?
🚫 Unfortunately, Camping du Lac de Carouge is not VACAF-approved and therefore cannot accept vouchers from the Family Allowance Fund to pay for your stay.
However, we accept other payment methods such as ANCV holiday vouchers, bank cards and bank transfers. Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss the available payment options and find the solution that suits you best.

Is it possible to pitch a tent next to rental accommodation?
⛺ Yes, it is possible to pitch a small tent next to your mobile home, chalet or lodge, but this must be requested in advance and incurs an additional charge.
📝 This option is ideal if you are travelling with:
- slightly older children who want their own space,
- an adventurous teenager who prefers to sleep ‘under canvas’,
- or a friend who is visiting and didn’t book in time 😉
💰 An additional fee per night is charged for the extra tent, and the total number of people must not exceed the authorised capacity of the pitch.
🎒 Please note: only small dome tents are accepted, within the limits of the space available around the accommodation. Large tents, family tents or marquee-type structures are not permitted.
👉 To request this option, simply specify it when making your booking or contact our team: we will let you know what options are available depending on the period and accommodation chosen.
Can electric vehicles be recharged on the pitch or in the Mobilhomes?
⚡🚗 No, it is not permitted to charge electric vehicles directly from the sockets on the pitches or in the mobile homes and other rental accommodation. These installations are not designed to support the power required for safe charging, which could result in overloads, fires or power cuts.
🔌 But good news: an 11 kW charging station is available at the campsite, on request at reception. It allows you to charge your electric vehicle safely during your stay. Access is subject to availability and an additional charge (price displayed at reception).
📍And if the station is already occupied or you are out and about, there are several public charging stations in the immediate vicinity, including:
- Saint-Pierre-d’Albigny (less than 5 minutes away)
- Montmélian,
- And Chambéry.
💡 Tip: remember to let us know in advance if you are coming with an electric vehicle so that we can organise your charging as best as possible.
Can I take out cancellation insurance?
🎯 Yes, and it’s a great idea! We don’t wish it on anyone, but something unexpected (big or small) can always happen just before the holidays…
Fortunately, you can take out cancellation insurance when you book online. This insurance covers you in the event of:
- illness (even last-minute flu),
- accident,
- work commitments (thanks boss…),
- and other unforeseeable mishaps.
💳 Do you have a ‘premium’ bank card such as Visa Premier, Mastercard Gold, etc.? Good news: you may already be covered! Check with your bank to avoid paying twice.
👉 When booking on our website, simply tick the ‘cancellation insurance’ option and you’re good to go with peace of mind. It’s a small extra for a lot of peace of mind.
📩 And if you have any doubts or a special situation, our team is here to advise you with a smile (and no small print).
Can I cancel my holiday?
📅 Yes, you can cancel your stay at Camping du Lac de Carouge, but the conditions vary depending on the date of cancellation. We explain everything clearly (and without legal jargon):
🔁 Cancellation without insurance:
- 🗓️ More than one month before arrival:
Cancellation is possible, but we will retain the deposit paid at the time of booking. - 🗓️ Less than one month before arrival:
Cancellation is still possible, but we will retain the full balance. At this stage, your accommodation has been reserved for you and is difficult to reschedule.
😇 Of course, in exceptional circumstances or in the event of a serious problem, please contact us: we are human, not robots (except perhaps Frizou, but we are still investigating…).
✅ Cancellation with insurance
If you took out cancellation insurance when you made your booking, you may be refunded according to the terms of the contract (illness, accident, work commitments, etc.). This is the ‘peace of mind’ option, to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
📩 For all cancellations, just send us an email or give us a call. The sooner you let us know, the more flexible and helpful we can be.
Is there Wi-Fi at the campsite?
Do you offer on-site catering?
Yes, in high season, we have a snack bar offering a selection of dishes such as pizzas, chips and cold drinks. It’s the perfect place to grab a bite to eat after a busy day.
Do you have a laundrette?
Yes, a laundry room with washing machines and tumble dryers is available. Tokens and washing powder are on sale at reception.
What activities are available on site?
🎉 At Camping du Lac de Carouge, boredom is not on the agenda! Here is a glimpse of the activities available:
For children: Playground, kids’ club in high season, fun and sports activities.
For sports enthusiasts: Petanque tournaments, volleyball, table tennis and direct access to hiking trails.
For those who love to relax: Swimming in the lake, themed evenings and green spaces to unwind.
Can you swim in the lake?
🌊 Oh yes! And not just any lake: Lac de Carouge is our natural gem 💎
Here, there’s no chlorine, no slippery tiles… just fresh, clear water with Blue Flag certification (which means it’s as clean as a mobile home after Virginie has been there 💪), surrounded by mountains and trees.
👙 In summer, there are lifeguards on duty, a sandy beach and everything you need for families, children, swimmers, floaters, chatterboxes on buoys, diving pros and those who just want to dip their toes in the water.
🛶 Want to mix things up? Paddleboarding and pedalos are also available… or you can take a nap in the shade, no judgement here 😎
💡 Bonus: the lake is right in front of the campsite, just a stone’s throw from the pitches. In other words, you can go from the hammock to the water in flip-flops in 12 seconds flat (beat that this summer).
Is there a kids' club?
👧🧒 Oh yes! At Camping du Lac de Carouge, we’ve thought of everything to ensure your little campers have an unforgettable holiday.
🎨 The Kids’ Club is open 6 days a week in July and August and offers a wide range of fun and creative activities tailored to their age group. Supervised by our enthusiastic activity leaders, your children can:
- 🎭 Take part in art workshops
- 🤹♂️ Discover new group games
- 🌿 Explore the surrounding nature on mini adventures
- 🎉 And much more!
⏰ Opening hours: Activities take place during the day (in the morning for the mini club and in the late afternoon and early evening for entertainment), except on Saturdays. This gives parents time to enjoy a well-deserved nap or a romantic getaway.
💡 Good to know: Participation in the Kids’ Club is free for young guests staying with us.
How do I get to Camping du Lac de Carouge?
How to get here:
- By car: via the A43, exit 23 “Châteauneuf”, just 7 minutes from the campsite.
- By train: Saint-Pierre-d’Albigny SNCF train station is 2 km away (regular connections from Chambéry and Grenoble).
- By bike: there is a greenway nearby. A secure area is available for parking your bike.
Does the campsite have space for motorhomes?
Yes, we welcome motorhomes all season long with:
- Stabilised pitches
- Drainage area
- Electric hook-ups
- Water
Are the campsite mascots real?
Is there karaoke where I can sing Céline Dion songs in a sequinned dress?
Officially, no. Unofficially… it all depends on your talent, your daring, and the time of day 😄
Who invented pétanque?
Why does the campsite hedgehog only come out when no one is looking?
🦔 Very good question.
Based on our night-time observations (and the compost surveillance cameras), it would appear that this hedgehog has a very personal sense of timing. Some say he follows a confidential schedule, others think he’s a member of the discreet animal union. One thing’s for sure: he hates spotlights, but he loves fallen cherries.
Does the mascot Frizou really talk to children?
🐑 We can neither confirm nor deny this. What we do know is that some children leave the campsite with secrets they don’t want to tell anyone except Frizou. Apparently, she sometimes moves when you turn your back. Coincidence? Sheep hypnosis? Or simply magical complicity? Everyone can make up their own mind…
Why did Pâquerette the cow disappear for three days in July 2022?
🐄 Ah… the Pâquerette case. Three days without a word, a cap found at a motorway service station, and a blurry selfie with a marmot. Officially, we’ll say she was at a personal development seminar in Haute-Maurienne. Unofficially, we suspect a strategic escape to avoid Tuesday karaoke and a particular performance of Céline Dion.
Does Alpinou the Saint Bernard really snore during the children's nap time?
🐶 According to several credible witnesses (including two entertainers and a very observant 4-year-old), yes. It seems that Alpinou produces a slight rhythmic snoring sound, similar to a drum roll, which even lulled an entire class of nursery school children who were visiting. Some think it’s a recorded sound effect. But those who have seen his snout move to the rhythm of the snoring… know better.
Why is Frizou afraid of blue parasols but not red ones?
🐑 It’s a mystery that even our team hasn’t solve yet. According to one theory, it all goes back to an incident on the beach in 2021 involving a Beaufort cheese sandwich, a gust of wind and a vengeful parasol . Since then, Frizou has kept his distance from anything turquoise blue. Red, on the other hand, is fine. Go figure.
