Where should you start your holiday in Savoie?
Depending on how much time you have, here’s how to organise your trips from the campsite.
The Combe de Savoie valley, its vineyards and Miolans Castle, and the Bauges massif just above.
Chambéry, 25 minutes away, and Albertville, 30 minutes away. Then there’s Lake Bourget, 35 minutes away.
Aix-les-Bains, the Cirque de Saint-Même and Lake Annecy, between 40 and 45 minutes.
Finally, the Roselend dam at 1.20 and Chamonix Mont-Blanc at 1.30 – a great day out.
The must-see towns of Savoie
There are four towns that are easy to visit on a day trip from the campsite. Each one has its own page, featuring journey times, a typical day out and our tips. You’ll also find information on car parks, markets and must-see attractions.
Chambéry and Aix-les-Bains
Chambéry, the former capital of the Dukes of Savoy, is just 25 minutes away. Its castle, the Fountain of the Elephants and its pedestrianised streets are best explored on foot. A little further afield, Aix-les-Bains combines thermal baths, a Belle Époque casino and Roman ruins.
Annecy and Albertville
Annecy and its canals are 55 minutes away, and its lake is 45 minutes away. On the other side, Albertville is home to the medieval town of Conflans and the legacy of the 1992 Winter Olympics. So, in four days, you’ll have seen the region’s major towns.
Lakes and nature: Savoie’s other must-see attractions
lac de Carouge is 50 metres from the campsite. Three other large lakes are then within 45 minutes’ reach: our page ‘The Lakes of Savoie’ compares them.
Lake Bourget, France’s largest glacial lake, is just 35 minutes away. As for the mountains, the Bauges massif looms directly above the campsite. This UNESCO Global Geopark offers a wide range of walks, from easy to challenging.

The Saint-Même Cirque
In the Chartreuse, 45 minutes away, the Cirque de Saint-Même features four waterfalls at the foot of 500-metre cliffs. Two signposted paths lead up to them.
La Combe de Savoie
Surrounding the campsite, the Combe de Savoie is home to vineyards, villages and Miolans Castle. It is therefore the ideal destination for a half-day outing, whether on foot, by car or by bike along the Belle Via.
The high mountains: a must-see day trip in Savoie
For a great day out, there are two places well worth a visit. Firstly, the Roselend Dam, 1 hour 20 minutes away, forms a turquoise lake in the heart of the Beaufortain. On the way, Beaufort and its dairy co-operative are also well worth a stop.
Next, Chamonix Mont-Blanc, 1 hour 30 minutes away, provides access to the Aiguille du Midi and the Mer de Glace. In both cases, set off early in the morning, as the mountain roads are busy in summer.
